It’s Wednesday again, and at Casa de la vida Wednesday is all about healthy eating. That means that today I am going to share a healthy recipe with you. This week it’s Topical Candy’s turn!
Who doesn’t love a smoothie in the morning? I love tasty smoothies filled with fruit. Years ago I bought a really good blender that still lasts to make smoothies. At the time, I didn’t have a lot of money to buy a smoothie every day before going to work, so I preferred to invest in a good blender to make them myself at home. And to this day I still do! This is also often what I do: spend money on something that will last for years instead of making a quick choice, or buy something cheaper that breaks quickly. Buying a smoothie every day gives you pleasure on the day itself, but investing once in a good blender can even take you years ahead!
Why do French people put fruit on their breakfast table? Because of course you can not only create cool things, certainly not during the Christmas period. The normal food is all sugar, meat and delicious fatty food! And to be fair, fruits are also full of fiber, which helps your bowel movements, as well as vitamins, minerals and other healthy things you always need. What I always love about fruit is that it just always looks so colorful! Plus, here’s the secret to fruit during the Christmas season: Of course you’ve been eating for two days and just want something fresh and crisp instead of all the heavy and mighty food.
In the region in the south of France where I grew up, eating fresh fruit is very common. You can easily pick it from the trees at the neighbors. The climate is ideal for citrus fruits and grapes. I used to climb trees to reap the benefits of the neighbor. Then I picked a basket full of fruit for him and I was allowed to keep everything I could pick for myself. As a child that was of course great, but now I think my neighbor always used me to reap his benefits, haha.
My favorite fruit ever is the mandarin. Mandarin tastes best in December and January. It is then nicely sour and sweet and the taste of a real citrus fruit comes out. You can experience delicious salad dressings (which I learned from my father), you can eat them as a snack and you can also make delicious pastries or jams with them. But they also look great on your table as a decoration. Watch out if you invited me over to your house because I would eat them all!
Fact of the day: I can eat a very nice mandarin in front of you! My father is my witness to this. But my husband knows that I wouldn’t peel, cut and eat fruit myself, so usually he surprises me when I’m at work with fresh and self-cut fruit on a plate, which is very sweet. And I know he wouldn’t make a smoothie himself as a healthy snack, so I make a smoothie almost every day for the whole family, filled with all kinds of healthy ingredients. And I want to share this with you!
Ingredients
For multiple smoothies / glasses
- 1 banana
- 2 peaches
- handful of pineapple, fresh or frozen
- 1 mango, fresh or frozen
- 1/2 cup of dry oatmeal
- 2.5 large gauzes of soy milk
- 2 tablespoon of baobab powder (optional)
Preparation
Put all the fruits in the blender. Cover it all with the soy milk (the fruits should disappear completely below the milk line). Top it all off with the oatmeal, blend well and then add the powder. If the smoothie is too thick for your taste, you can add soy milk. The smoothie is already sweet in itself, so you don’t have to add sugar or other sweeteners.
Serve immediately, or with a reusable straw if presenting the smoothies on your Christmas table!
My experience
Tropical Candy is a fair morning boost, easy to make and a quick breakfast when you don’t have time to eat a sandwich. And of course healthier than a cheese sandwich. With this smoothie you have received all your vitamins and your daily portion of fruit!
This is highly recommended if you want to surprise people with a delicious smoothie.
