Healthy Wednesday has arrived again, but today I’m sharing something with you that isn’t exactly healthy. It is healthy for your state of mind and spirit, though, and good to eat during the Christmas season. Or actually all year round! When I’m done sharing all of the recipes this week, you can understand why I went so hard on salads afterwards!
As you could see and read last Monday, this week’s table is all about desserts, so there’s a lot of sugar and chocolate! And there is nothing wrong with that. Fortunately, it is only Christmas once a year and I am also very satisfied with the result of the table. As I said before, I really thought this one would never make it online. But luck was on our sides and I can share my cozy recipes with you.
As a child I grew up with a mother who did not want me to eat too much sugar. I now have to secretly admit that that was a very good idea, but I think I missed a lot on this side of my upbringing. I don’t really have a sweet tooth to this day. I really love eating and tasting desserts, but not making and preparing them. How did that happen? It’s all too precise for me. Everything has to be precise down to the gram, at the perfect temperature, and you should never mix too much flour in your dough, because then your cake will not turn out right. That’s something I can’t always handle. Furthermore, this table kept us busy for three days through a number of obstacles. My scales broke, as did my mood, but it ended up being a beautiful table. Almost like it could be out of a fairytale! And then I had a hard time having to choose one of all the delicious desserts to share with you. So I chose a very simple dessert that anyone can make easily!
Today I’m sharing with you a recipe that is guaranteed to steal the show: white chocolate balls with whatever filling your stomach could wish for! My chosen filling is grated coconut and Luis chose oreos, because he doesn’t like coconut. You only need a few ingredients, some time in the refrigerator and with that you have your dessert on the table in no time.
These balls can be made with in all kinds of fillings and coatings. I always see them popping up on Instagram, so I decided to find out how to make them in an easy way. Ultimately, they came out beyond expectations. Behind the scenes I am busy creating a healthy variant, but that is for another time! I’m sure I can make my sister-in-law happy with this.
Ingredients
The amounts in this recipe depend on the number of balls you want to make. With the ingredients in these quantities, I was able to make about fifteen balls. I divided the melted chocolate into two bowls.
- 200 gr white chocolate
- 30 grams of grated coconut
- 30 g oreo cookies, crushed
- 30 ml whipped cream or cooking cream
Coating
- chocolate sprinkles
- 10 gr of grated coconut
Preparation
Melt your white chocolate au bain marie. Then add the cream and stir the chocolate with cream until it becomes one. Divide this mixture between two smaller bowls. Crush your oreos by hand or in a food processor. Mix your oreos in one of the bowls of chocolate and the grated coconut in the other. Mix both bowls well and let the mixtures harden in the fridge for a few hours.
When the mixtures are hard, it is time to coat the balls. Sprinkle sprinkles and grated coconut on two different plates. Take a scoop out of one of the mixtures with a tablespoon and roll it between your palms until it becomes a ball. Then roll the ball through the coating of your choice and place it in a dish. Repeat this until all your chocolate mix is used up and put the bowl with balls back in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
Voilà, a delicious chocolate truffle!
The result
This is a delicious chocolate snack that you can have on the table in no time. The only bad thing is that the chocolate has to become stiff again and that takes some time, but then you really have something on the table that is delicious to give away to your family, or to take to dinner! And you can make these balls all year round. It doesn’t have to be Christmas to splurge on something beautiful, right?
By the way, these balls from heaven were on the table next to my new chocolate pretzels recipe! You still have to be patient for that. Good things come to those who wait! There’s one thing I’m sure of: I am really very satisfied with the result and I definitely want to work with chocolate more often. Maybe I have discovered a new passion.
I can assure you that I am coming up with many variants of these chocolate truffles, and I am also very curious how the healthy variants will come out. But first I’m going to do some unhealthy things for Christmas. Fortunately, January starts next week. I can’t wait to start eating healthy again!
Have you ever had such delicious chocolate snacks? And what would you fill them with? Of course I am curious about that! Tell me and who knows, you might see a blog with your ingredient soon!
